How Our Connection Speeds Work

Desert iNET’s network is designed to maximize our customers’ experience by providing the fastest speeds possible and minimizing the “shared network slowdown” often experienced with other providers.

All normal internet surfing speeds run at or near the maximum rate.  For large file transfers, the first 65 megabytes are transferred at or near the maximum rate, with the remaining portion transferred at the stated minimum speed (as an example, average music files are 5 megabytes in size).  Once the transfer is completed the system will begin to move up to the maximum speeds again.

Our minimum speeds for each package are listed below:

Minimum Speeds* Premium #1 Premium #2 Premium #3 Premium #4
Download 1 Mbps 1 Mbps 1.5 Mbps 2.5 Mbps
Upload 256 Kbps 512 Kbps 1 Mbps 1.5 Mbps

*All download and upload speeds may vary for reasons such as customer location, websites accessed, Internet congestion and customer equipment.  Also, please note that some file transfer rates on your screen may be shown in bytes.  To translate bytes into bits (Kbps or Mbps as shown in the table above), multiply by 8 because there are 8 bits in a byte :-).
